4chan Status Checker is a system originally designed to keep tabs on the status of 4chan's network, as I was dissatisfied with the existing one on blogs.4chan.org. The devops on 4chan are notoriously coy about what goes on, so, as I am developing an archival system, I wanted to see exactly which servers were available for use and what, specifically, was failing.
4CSC pulls the list of A, AAAA, and CNAME records from DNS for a given hostname. The software then sequentially tests each IP address, with the tests used being configurable for each hostname. After completing testing, 4CSC determines whether a server is online, degraded, or offline. Then the hostname is graded in a similar manner, and so with the service above that hostname.
The result is a detailed, yet easy-to-read report, updated every 15 minutes.
